Tradition and religion
On the thematic route of the Trail of Churches on the Lake Tisza, the unique Sacral open-air museum in Tiszaörs is a small gem. A key aspect of the reconstruction of the former cemetery guard house, which was purchased in 2017, was to create a “country house” that is in keeping with the traditional architecture customs of the area and blends naturally with the buildings of the surrounding area.
A permanent and a temporary exhibition within the walls of the open-air museum
There are also two exhibitions in two rooms of the building.
The permanent exhibition presents the sanctified turns of human life, accompanied by ecclesial presence. In parallel, the private spaces of the twentieth century appear with objects of religious content, completing the world of beliefs of the people of the time. The objects on display at the sacral exhibition were donated and lent by the people of Tiszaörs. The visitor interested in religious and ethnographic themes can see mass vestments, stoles, book relics and utensils from the last century.
The first temporary exhibition with a changing theme in 2022 will be a private collection of police relics. Police Lieutenant Colonel Zoltán Potornai, who was born in Tiszaörs, donated his own collection of relics to the newly opened open-air museum, which will showcase a special collection.
A multimedia photo and film selection in the lobby gives a broader insight into the world of celebrations in Tiszaörs held in the last century. The images capture baptisms, funerals, weddings, other holidays and special occasions, showing how the people who lived here lived their holidays. The exhibition is illustrated with a short tableau text, the foreign language versions of which are available in several languages for non-English speakers via QR code.
